Cellucor is a sport supplement manufacturer headquartered in Texas, USA. Cellucor is best known for their pre-workouts supplements such as this Alpha Amino. Cellucor is heavy on their choice of pre-workout products, cellucor have 14 total pre-workout products. Cellucor’s most popular pre-workout is called C4, but Alpha Amino is one of their best selling amino acid / BCAA product.

            What is inside Alpha Amino?

Alpha Amino is basically an “Advanced BCAA” formula. Instead of just the 3 cores of BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine), Cellucor added eleven additional amino acids such as l-glutamine, taurine, l-alanine, l-citruline, l-arginine, l-lysine HCI, l-phenylalanine, l-threonine, l-methionine, l-tyrosine, and histdine. However there is no indication of how much of these eleven additional amino acids are included.

Alongside the amino acids, there are also 200mg of electrolytes and 70mg of phosphorus, potassium and small portion of magnesium + sodium.

            How effective is Alpha Amino?

The core amino acids included are the base of this product. Most pre-workout BCAAs have this same exact 2:1:1 blend of amino acids. These core amino acids have been proven to improve stamina, endurance, increase focus and stimulate fat loss. However we are not sure about the inclusion of the other 11 amino acids. Actually their inclusion is quite confusing. For example Histidine is usually used for people suffering from immune disease and Lysine HCI is usually used to prevent cold sores. And the fact that we don’t know how much of these extra 11 amino acids are included makes me wonder if they are just for fluff and marking?

The 200mg of electrolytes will help to boost energy and prevent early dehydration.

What is an alternative product to Alpha Amino?

A long time competitor of Cellucor and a very respectable product that competes against Alpha Amino is Amino Energy by Optimum Nutrition.  Amino Energy has a long history and loyal following. It has been the standard (in my opinion) for the good old pre-workout that has been proven to work!
